Dr Lam completed his primary medical education in the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2001. He then continued to complete his basic physician training and cardiology training in Prince of Wales Hospital and North District Hospital (Hong Kong). He acquired his board certification in cardiology (Hong Kong) in 2008. He underwent mini-fellowship in cardiac CT scan (CCT) in John Hopkins University USA in 2008, clinical fellowship in advance echocardiography in Princess Alexandra Hospital (University of Queensland) in 2009-2010, and research fellowship in cardiovascular MRI (CMR) in Royal Brompton Hospital (Imperial College London UK) in 2014-2016. Having undergone refresher training in the HeartScan Institute (Sydney) in 2021, Dr Lam obtained the Australian accreditation for CCT.

Dr. Lam is an all-round cardiovascular imaging cardiologist with extensive experience in echo, CCT and CMR. He earned multiple international recognitions over the years: FASE (American Society of Echocardiography) in 2012, the FSCMR (Society of Cardiovascular MRI) and FRACP (Royal Australasian College of Physicians) in 2018, FCSANZ (Cardiac Society of Australia and NZ) in 2020, and FESC (European Society of Cardiology) in 2021. Between 2017 and 2025, Dr Lam led the cardiovascular imaging team in Cairns Hospital.
